I’m very happy to announce that I’ve completed a second edition of How to Future Proof Your Home, available exclusively through the FutureProofMyBuilding.com online store.

Second Edition How to Future Proof Your Home

In this second edition I elaborate on concepts discussed in the first edition using feedback from readers of the first edition. This second edition is also more complete as it includes information from the Passive House training which I studied in March of 2014.

This second edition also elaborates on how conditions in warmer climates affect the principles of building for these climates.

I also discuss how certain principles can be applied through retrofit situations.

The second edition of How to Future Proof Your Home contains approximately 30% more content than the first edition with several new topics.

New topics include:

  • Updates about solar power
  • Passive solar design
  • Home automation
  • Measurement and Management of Energy and water
  • Electric Vehicles and Plugin Electric vehicles and how they can connect to your home to reduce your gasoline bill and dependence on oil
  • The benefits of Modular Construction
  • The Passive House standard
  • LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building standard
  • The Living Building Challenge
